Sometimes I give up on sewing Y seams on the machine & sew the by hand. I can always get the right that way.

I'd sure like to try that border, I'll bet it would make most any quilt shine

I haven't but did see that one. Anything that says challenging I have stayed away from as I am not at the point I want to challenge anything. I have done Y-seams though. I found several tutorials online available. I needed to be shown what I needed to do so when reading the pattern it was simplified as I could then envision what it is the pattern wanted me to do.
Here is Jinny Beyers tutorial, hand and machine seams. I learned quickly and am pleased with what I can now do.

I bought the pattern to make for my husband I have made a great deal of the pieces but still and yet to connect the large star points together I am a perfectionist and it has proven to be challenging. I have all the fabrics picked out because my husband and I choose a different color grouping it does break my heart that it may not turn out as great as I want it to but I will get back to it soon I have been working on other projects hoping to be more experienced when I get back to it andmy husband has been patiently waiting so I will get the courage and work on it again soon

    Hi bobbie,
The points are the challenge in this one. There have been some excellent suggestions given here.
However, I never have gotten the center star as perfect as I wanted it to be. I finally did an 8
pointed star piece to go over that section and will applique it on that spot when I'm finished.

After tearing out alot of stitches and using my own brain (instead of the instruction sheet a couple
of times), I finally have it close to done and I'm pleased with it.
One thing for sure....sew from dot to dot. Derrick says 'sew thru the dot in some places' and that
simply does not work for me when you're matching points and seams. AND I did quite a bit of
hand work to make things match, too.
Tomorrow I'll be starting the border (square 3).

Also, they are really short on a couple of the fabrics in this kit. SO cut carefully. I ended up having
to ask for a bit more of two of them and the company sent them without charge.

When I started this one, it was labeled as Intermediate. I never would have bought a 'challenging'.
And I won't buy one again for awhile. BUT it really is beautiful. I love Derrick's quilt designs and
have done most of his Bargellos without any problem (after the first one. lol).

SO...do it! You'll love it debbie.
Happy Quilting Gang!! and again, thanks for your input on this one.

Finished piecing this one in early September. It's still at the long arm quilters. It was a challenge the whole way
thru and I won't make another one. However, it turned out gorgeous and I can hardly wait to see it totally done.

Since I don't do pictures... sorry, I can't share the finished product.
My only suggestion to folks wanting to do this one: be prepared to do bits of it by hand and TAKE YOUR TIME!
