I am considering getting involved with a block a month project. Have looked at many, but some dealers want $30-$40 a month to get their pattern & fabric. I can't afford to spend that much. Are there any BOM patterns that are "free" or relatively inexpensive that I can get started on and build on each month? I thought that since this was January 1st there might be new ones coming out for the year. Thanks loads.

www.fatcatpatterns.com is one
http://www.claudiasquiltshoppe.com/freebom.htm had one this past year, I'm not sure if she is planning to again this year or not, but you can check after the first of the year. There are lots of free ones if you just search for them.

There is one with "house" blocks that begins on the 1st. There is also one with "stars" that begins on the 15th. These are both going to be here.

Also if you are on a real tight budget, Joann's always has the Block of the Month sets that can be purchased monthly for less than $10 a month along with their coupons (so long as you sign up), and directions fabric etc is included in the pack. At the end of the year you just need to buy the binding/backing kit and you're good to go. I've done this a few times to have quilts made at the end of the year for friends and family.

In the alternative, you could simply go online and choose a new block and/or technique each month that you've never worked on before to tackle a theme/pattern of your own choosing and make your own in a kind of personalized Row Robin with yourself, LOL. The Monthly Blocks on here are great as well...

Explosive blessings, abundance and inspiration to you all!
