does anybody have the olfa stencil cutter. i read about it on another site but haven't seen one anywhere. i'd like to make my own stencils/templates for hand quilting.
or does anyone have any ideas about where i can find one or how to cut them without the stencil cutter?

go to www.quiltingstencils.com (The Stencil Co) there wil be a picture in their catalog of the double bladed stencil cutting knife. You can use a single blade knife like Xacto but you have to cut two lines. The double blade is much easier to use.
They are not generally available in hobby shops as the company Olfa has discontinued the manfacturer. Another hint. You will need a flexible plastic Neither the Xacto single blade or the Olfa double blade will cut the stiffer plastic. The DBK from The Stencil co or similar flexible plastic will be easier to cut. If you should contact The Stencil Co, ask them for the instruction sheet for using the double blade knifes.

I have the older Olfa stencil (double blade) cutters. Actually have two of them. Have enough blades to last my lifetime....and yes it was worth it.

All of Holice's information is absolutely true.

the price for the cutter was about $5 and they have refill blades too. seems like its well worth a try so i placed an order. i couldn't resist some of the stencils they had but i still want to make some unique ones of my own.

Thanks, I will try it. What kind of plastic do you use and where do you buy it?

I just bought some stencil sheets on eBay over the weekend. I got 10 - 14X17 sheets for $20.
