My husband made me one that has about ten times the slots that the store-bought one has and I've got them all in there except for the exceptionally large Eleanor Burns template for Radiant Star.

All he did was take some wood and make 1/4" slots in it about a half inch apart. Works like a charm if you know someone who has a table saw!

I store my templates in a pizza box on the shelf, my small rulers in a plastic magazine holder and my larger rulers against the side of my sewing table. Not ideal, but this was a temporary space. Most of my ruler storage was in my currently stored cutting table (made from countertop material).

I actually have a storage box about 17 inches wide and 10 inches deep attached to my cutting board to hold all the large rulers such as the 12x12, 15x15, 8x24, etc. The inside is padded with felt, with a removable felt cover around the edges to prevent nicks in the rulers. The felt is not attached so that it can be replaced when worn without taking the box apart. There is a drawer underneath to hold my smaller, but frequently used rulers.

I so love my wrapping paper holder, made from a Simplicity pattern, that I'm making a tote bag with lots of pockets to hold all my other rulers, so that I can just hang it in the closet. Out of the way, but instantly accessible. Any instructions will be kept in the same pocket with the ruler too. I may do a similar thing for the templates, but since I don't take them out that often, not sure it's worth the time. They have been happy in their Pizza box for 10 years or more (actually, its a deeper pizza box that I got from a Scrapbooking place, but operates the same).

Finally, here is a link to a pattern that may help you. Sorry, I don't know exactly how to use the hotlink, so you'll just have to copy and paste.
