Default Suede on c/l?

I am curious about this listing . . I have not seen pictures yet, but he has dropped the price in email. He says $10 per yard, unless I get more than 10 yards. Then it would be $5 per yard.

From what he has said, it sounds like he has actual hides. He was going to do auto upholstery . . ??

any thoughts on this?

I was thinking of a leather quilt, and I do have some old skirts saved already. I also wondered about making my own trench coat! lol

am I nuts? is this a good deal? do I even *want* it?! ;0))

I have only tried using suede once when making a vest. I ended up doing the embellishing by hand as my machine could not handle the areas where it was double. A leather quilt would probably feel like a horse blanket, it would be so heavy, wouldn't it?

If it's for upholstery, then it may be on the thick side, unlike your garments. you can make a pieced top, but I don't think you are actually going to want to quilt it. It will weigh a ton. I made a couple of covered pillows. I cut the leather exactly to size, butted the edges together and zigzagged them together over a piece of muslin. I used a leather foot (see if you can get one for your machine) and a leather needle.
If you are still interested, I would order a small amount, even if it's a premium price, or maybe he can send you a sample for a few bucks.

No matter the price I'd want to see it first before comitting to buying it.

Instead of a quilt - how about purses or belts?

Is it suede cloth, bonded suede on a backing, or whatever oz suede from a wholesaler? You need much more information. My husband and one of my sons are leather craftsmen.

We have a buffalo hide and an Oryx hide and in spots the hide is at least 1/2" thick or thicker. Where is the leather from? Our buffalo hide could crush a small kid or animal. HA HA
