I need your suggestions for a little repair job. I bought a beautiful sampler quilt top at a silent auction. I have hand-quilted three blocks, and I noticed there is a small 1/2 inch area in the corner of one block that didn't get sewn into the sashing adjoining it. It looks like there just wasn't enough fabric to get caught into the seam. What would you do with this? Appreciate your suggestions.

is it in an area where you could add a label to tell about the quilt?

A Button. I had the same problem Took one of my Scottie dog Buttons And used that.

Can you match the color of the fabric that is lacking? i.e., if it's muslin that didn't quite reach the sashing, can you put a piece of muslin behind it? If so, I would do that and then very carefully (and with extremely tiny stitches) adhere both pieces together so the quilt top won't fray and the repair appears to be seamless. I would then make sure to quilt over this area also so that it is all secure.

Lastly, if you make a successful repair and you don't tell anyone it's been repaired, they likely won't notice it!

No, it's not muslin....it's one of the fabrics in the quilt. Since I didn't make the quilt, I don't have any of the fabrics that are in it either. As far as taking a picture and sending it to this discussion.....I'm afraid I'm a little illiterate as to how to do it!! :(

Maybe you could take a piece of similar fabric and make a patch as suggested. After it is patched you could sprinkle a few embroideries around the quilt to disguise it.

Look at these posts. The first one shows Up North's problem with points that didn't match. The second one shows how she hid the problem with some embroidery. I realize the problem isn't the same but it my be applicable.

I always applique a heart on anything like that.

I would mark that spot and continue quilting the quilt...if there is one spot like this, you may come across another one or other issues...when you are all done, take a look at any places you have marked that need repairs. Then a sprinkling of little appliques around the whole top may just do the trick :wink:

I love the idea of tiny appliques. That would be cute and no one would ever know what it covers.
