Personally I am finding that my preferences in quilt patterns have changed. When I started I for some reason was not drawn to the traditional, such as Dresden Plate, nine patch..etc. Now I am finding I am drawn to the traditional old look patterns. Not sure if they scared me, but after quilting for awhile, my confidence in my abilities has improved. I am willing to try a Dresden plate quilt, done in the vintage type fabric. Funny, eh? Anyone feel the same way or maybe even in reverse.

Definitely. I have done a pendulum swing with patterns, fabrics, you name it.
I guess we just keep evolving with our art :D
Actually, I'm doing the reverse from you. Since I joined this forum I'm finding all kinds of new patterns and ideas. I used to be strictly traditional with my patterns but it's really fun to try new things.
    I love this forum!! :D

I'm almost in reverse. I have grown to appreciate the art quilts and the more modern styles and fabrics. To me this is such a fluid art form. There is room for all styles and fabrics. To put it simple I love quilts!:)

I started with the log cabin first a cot size then a queen size, but watching this forum and all the wonderful quilts on it inspires me to try other things I am making a 10 minute patch quilt fot my daughter and her hubby he love fish and has a house full so it is fish themed with the centre patches, did all the square tonight hope to put it all together tomorrow night, to busy tomorrow and the power is going of for 8 hours while they do repairs somewhere, so no sewing during the day, that reminds me I had better fill all our water jugs as no power no water as we are on rain water tanks and have punps to bring the water in the house,

I like 'em all!!! (Patterns that is.) Actually I've found that what is changing is my choice in colors.

My preference pendulum swings constantly. One minute I Am loving the traditional... then .. art quilts. It just never seems to stop swinging. I guess thats why I am addicted.
Looking at my first quilts .. it was my inexperince with color that just seems to shout at me. They were dull.. and I was chicken.....about color...but there was not the selection there is now.

When I started quilting it was all about calicoes and florals. It was hard to find any fabric print that didn't have a flower of some sort on it. I seldom buy floral fabric now. I love batiks and tone on tone fabric used in traditional quilt patterns.

The only real change I can see is that I love the pink/green/blue/yellow fabrics. Years ago, I used the lighter shades, today I use the darker shades. And I have more confidence to do things like Dresden Plate, Lone Star, Cathedral Window. I would have never tried them before. But I must say, the confidence was helped tremendously from all the help and tuts on this board. I am so glad I found this.

You know, now that you mentioned it, I did the exact same thing. Love those traditional quilts!
