Question Juki 2010Q, Threads and Free Motion

Hi all, I need some user feedback. I have just done a week long workshop on free motion quilting and it went well, except my DSM balked and fussed at most of the specialty threads we tried (we had access to a huge range of Superior Threads products for the week). I was unable to use Bottom Line in the bobbin at all!

Classmates were doing their FM with Juki 98's and my teacher said if I found I had to go looking for a less fussy free motion machine, the Juki 2010Q would be the way she'd go. I demo'd the 98's and LOVED the feel and power of the machine.

Has anyone run the Juki 2010 and tried out various thread types...poly's, cottons, silks, metallics...on the machine and if so, how has that gone?

i don't have the 2010... i have the 98Q. i've never had a bit of trouble with any thread i used. i have to tell you though, that i put the thread only through 2 of the 3 holes on the front. i also but a small piece of batting in the thread guide that telescopes up near the spool. i read all of this on the yahoo group when i first got the machine.

I bought the 2010Q a month ago, I love it! I've used cheap thread and expensive thread with no problems. The machine sews beautifully and I'm very happy with it. I have not tried FM with metallic thread, I plan to use metallic thread on a Christmas wall hanging.

I have the 2000 and have only used basic coats and clark so far, no issues with piecing or FMQ that weren't user error- I have it threaded exactly as the manual shows.

I have to say, Juki could do a MUCH better job of illustrating the thread path...the manual drawing is badly printed and I can't for the life of me figure out what the heck they are trying to show you in the illustration meant to teach you how to used the threader!

I also wish the bobbin "snicked" into place when you have it in correctly, as my Bernina bobbin does (there is a little click as it latches home). I have gotten the Juki bobbin in wrong a couple of times, and it falls out. Must practice more!

Finally, this machine needs an open toe quilting foot! Anyone got a third party foot they like using?
