Default easy pattern for grocery store tote?

I want to make those totes for the grocery store that are taller than wide. I do have a pattern but cannot understand how to do the box bottom. My plan is to make them for my family's households for Christmas gifts. I have great food fabrics and want to start right away the week after Thanksgiving weekend.
Thanks.

There are two ways I do boxed bottom. What you do is turn your bag inside out and fold it in such way that the one side seam is right on top of the bottom seam. Be as precise as you can. This will form a corner. Place your ruler a few inches away from the corner making sure that the side seam is at 90 degrees with the ruler. How many inches depends on how wide you want your bag to be. Draw a line and stitch on the line. Repeat the same with the other corner. Turn your bag right side our and - voila, you will have perfect square corners. The other way I do it is virtually identical except I do not turn my bag inside out. When I am done boxing the corners, I flip the little triangles up the sides of the bag and secure them with decorative buttons I hope this helps. Good luck!

How is the pattern laid out? Is the bottom of the bag just squared off, or is there a small square cut out of each corner? There are a lot of tutorials out there, but it depends on how the pattern is laid out.

I only make reusable bags this way: http://www.lazygirldesigns.com/blog/...iday-gift-bags

Once you make one you will know how to make it wide or as tall as you want.

I made the 1st one..but the last one is a great basic bag. Flattning out the triangle is what makes it flat on the bottom. I have been experimenting with bottoms to make it studier. I am using corrigated plastic now and like it alot. It started life as a for sale sign I found at Lowes or Home Depot. I was able to cut it with a utility knife. It is sturdy and would be easy to clean as its all plastic.

Thanks.
Mine are easy-------sew down the sides, and the bottom if not folded over. lay bag flat and cut 2" squares out of the bottom corners (don't include seams in the 2") Now fold out the cut corners so that you have the cut sides making a straight line (side seams will touch bottom seams/crease). Sew across there.

DONE! oh, don't forget handles. Mine are real simple. I cut 4.5" fabric as long as I want the handles. Lay out lengthwise, fold up a bit more than half and pin or press. Fold down enough that you can turn under a bit and have folded edge hitting just below center. top stitch. I always attach straps with boxed X stitches to insure stability.
