I am so excited!! I wanted to do something nice for my friend from church who constantly runs me to the doctor for spinal injections, so I bought her a gift certificate for a nice dinner with her husband. So I told her the gift included keeping her 10 year old daughter while they went out. My friend told me she thought her daughter who is extremely crafty and creative, might like to try her hand at quilting!! I teach quilting and boy did that get me excited!! Her daughter Madison and I went out today and picked out the rest of the fabric we needed (after raiding my huge stash) to make this colorful kids quilt and we are starting on it next weekend. Madison is really excited to do this and I told her when she finishes it we will post it here for everyone to see. I love seeing children be so eager to learn something new. How fun is that??? Her Dad told her it would be so cool to see her be able to do something Mom can't do!! Mom can't even sew on a button!! Can't wait until she gets it done so we can show it off!!

Very exciting. I taught my daughter when she was 7. And then her and I taught a class together for mommy and me. It was a lot of fun. We got 4 kids and 5 adults. The kids ages were 7-12. They had a lot of fun. But they get bored after an hour or so. So we took snack breaks and did fun stuff in between. :)

what a wonderful thing for you and her. when we lived in ny I was teaching a neighbor's 10 yr. old boy to quilt - he even asked for a sewing machine for Christmas. Then we moved, and that was the end of that (:

Me too!! She's been bragging to all her friends who are quite jealous that she's going to do something so cool and fun. But since I teach quilting, if her little friends are interested, I may try to round up a few and hold a 2 hour class for 6 weeks or so over the summer. Gives us both something constructive to do. Madison's Mom just called me a few minutes ago and told me she's so excited about this she doesn't want to wait until next weekend. She wanted to know if she could start working on tracing out her templates for the applique pieces tonight. Her Mom said "I think you may have created a monster here!!" So fun!! I love teaching and I love seeing how excited a new student is when they complete their first quilt and accomplish something they never thought they could do. It gives me great joy!!!
