    Default ELNA 8000 sewing machine

    Good Morning,
I was just gifted an ELNA 8000. I found a manual online. Does anyone have one of these sewing machines? Are they easy to use? Any suggestions?

    Thank you

I am not familar with the Elna line. If it looks like it has been service, I would take it in for a cleaning.

I have one in a closet. It's the one with all the fonts & deco stitches that are on the top rotating panel? I got mine from eBay several yrs ago...something constantly wrong (serves me right'), so it is in hiding. I don't have anyone in my area that can do repairs on it. Elna had a wonderful reputation before they were bought . In fact I have a CarinaSU from mid '80's that has been a work horse...all metal and never failed me...its in a closet also. Along with 3 others. I just have too many machines. My name is mermaid and I have an addiction.

Oh, forgot to add that I am using the Elna 7100, mid arm , for FMQ. It was made by Janome and compares to Janome 1600....love it.

I have an Elna 6004 and it is my understanding that Janome's and Elna's are now manufactured by the same company. I love mine and have had it more than 15 yrs with absolutely no issues. But the 6004 was considered a sewing machine for quilters at the time and I got a great deal right after the IQF show in Houston that year.

Well I could not get the bobbin thread to connect with the top thread. Took it to a sewing machine repair shop and after 20 minutes they said it was the timing and would cost minimum of $119. Don't have that kind of money laying around. Darn

Yep, I think that is the problem with mine. Sometimes it will make stitches, and then just skips along. What a bummer! I pd abt 400$ for it and didn't realize it was the machine and not me for a long time--too late to complain!

Call around and find a different repairman that doesn't charge so much.

My first comouterized sewing machine was an elna 9000, I bought in 1990. That machine had the most beautiful stitches. I sold it a few years later for a Bernina Artista 180 and always regretted not keeping that elna. Perhaps you could save it for a family member, or for a time when you can afford to repair it? I'm sure it would fetch a nice price on ebay if you decide to sell. It really is a sweet machine
