Default Tension Issues!!

I was finished adding the binding to a quilt today. I turned it over and whaaaattt???? There were sections on the back from the FMQ where there were loops in the thread. I hadn't touched the tension wheel! I have it set between 3-4 because this happened before when I had it on 4. I don't understand how it could just switch! I had to rip all of that out!

Were the loops on curved sections of the FMQ? This often happens on curves when you move the fabric too quickly. The rest of the quilting will be OK, just the curves will have issues. The fix is to maintain a steady movement of the quilt while FMQing.

Unless the fabric changed over the back or front where the loops were, I think it is a speed problem. A different fabric can throw off the tension but it is probably a case of going too fast on the curves. They good news is, the sewing comes out easily. Sorry you have to use Jack the Ripper.
