Is Tex 21 thread

too small for piecing quilts? I have a huge spool and can't remember what I bought it for, duh. Thank you.

Tex 21 is a size. What brand is it and what else does it say on the spool?

Thank you, I know it is a size but is it too light for piecing cotton fabric? I don't know if I bought this for bobbin thread or for piecing. It only says the brand name, which I can't remember and the tex size 21.

21 is much heavier than the 40, 50 & 60 wt threads many of us use. The higher the number the finer the thread. I don't think I would piece with a thread that heavy- maybe big stitch quilting or some sort of embroidery

I checked up on Tex thread sizes on the Superior Threads website. They state that a Tex size of 9 to 20 is considered a fine thread, a Tex size of 21 to 70 is considered as medium and 71 and higher as heavy. Using this information I would think that your thread would be fine for piecing.

I think Coats and Clark uses the Tex system. Annoying to have to look on the chart if the shop has one available. If the spool of thread doesn't have the wt and ply on the spool I don't buy it, not worth me giving my money to be frustrated.

Tex is an industrial measure for thread. Tex 21 to 27 are roughly same weight as serger thread like maxi-lock.

It's my understanding that TEX refers to strength and Wt refers to size. A TEX (strength) 21 is OK for piecing but might break. If that truely is the size-it's way to big for piecing. I prefer 50 or 60 wt and use a full 1/4" seam. If I'm desperate, I'll use 40 with a scant 1/4" seam.
