I was given this sewing machine pictured below today. It seems to me to be very old. The name of the sewing machine is American Rotary which was manufactured by National. The model number is R40. I do not know where to find out how old it is, or when it was made. It also came with the cabinet below. I am not sure if it works or not because the power cord is broken up. I like to know how much it might be worth. I am thinking about selling it.

Thanks,
Mary (stitchengrime

You might want to join nsmco. It's a yahoo group. The owner of that group specializes in the National Sewing Machines. You can also google and get info on that machine. I have one made by National but badged for Montgomery Wards from the 1930's. As far as their worth, not much. Maybe 50-100 bucks. Depends on what kind of shape it's in. I paid $10.00 for mine. Most people just collect them because they do sew very well.

follow a couple of these links and you'll get an idea. they don't seem to be too valuable, but do appear to be reliable.

the one you have seems to be from 1942 (it was a VERY good year!)

Like I said in my other post. You may need to join the National Sewing Machine Co (nsmco) on yahoo. Or you can try Needle Bar. You will find some help on both those sites. They may not be able to help you find the exact item you are looking for, but someone may have one that will work. I'm sure you will need to post pictures.

Ooo. Don't ask the needlebar. They are not happy when people are just trying to find out how much their machine is worth. They only want people who are really collectors or lovers of the old machines prior to 1960.

It probably isn't worth much at all. List it on Craigslist for $100 and see what happens. If it doesn't sell, go down in price from there.
