Thanks everybody for welcomming me to this great site :) . I have received one reply from Jan in VA re my problem. Has anybody else made the quilt called EASY CAT NAP QUILT by Mary Ellen Hopkins? The dimensions and cutting instructions conflict with each other. It is such a cute quilt and I'm dying to make it. Konne from White Rock, British Columbia Canada

Is this the pattern you are working with?

How far have you gotten with a block? Where, specifically, are you running into a problem?

Hi
Yes this is the pattern I've been trying to make. If you will notice in the cutting directions for the background it mentions two 13" x 2" strips. In the sewing directions it mentions 13 1/2 x 2" strips. I have made this block using both dimensions and it does not equal 14 1/2". The problem seems to be with the left background strip being too long.

I made this a couple of years ago but I don't remember who designed it. It looks very similar. I also don't remember having any problems with it or I would have not tried to finish it. It's hard to adjust things sometimes but I am sure you will. I would like to welcome you too. LOL

Thanks Darlene,

Yes this is the quilt I am trying to make. Yours is very cute! Do you still have the pattern? If you do then you would see where my problem is. The printing instructions versus the cutting instructions are different for the top and left background strips. One says 13 x 2'' the other says 13 1/2 x 2". Konne

Hi again

I have not heard back from you although I have from several other ladies. The help is amazing. I hope you can see where the problem is? if not I will just have to adjust it somehow and try not to swear. Ugh!! Konne

I think where the directions "read funny" to me is here:

Instead of what the directions say, do this:

Sew the 11-1/2 inch strip to the TOP of the cat and

THEN sew the 13 inch strips to the SIDES of the cat.

Then you sew the bottom (window sill) 14-1/2 inch strip to the cat.

The unfinished size of this unit should be approximately 14-1/2 inches square.
