Default Is There a Way to Remove "Glitter/Sparkle" From Fabric?

I know you all have come up with some pretty awesome ideas, so I thought I'd try with this question.

I have a yard of black and red fabric that has what looks like tiny glitter on it (it came that way). I like the fabric, but don't like the glitter aspect and was wondering if I could do anything to either remove it from the fabric (it doesn't look like it is "painted" on) or dull it down significantly. I am not able to post a picture, but hopefully you get the idea from my description.

Can anyone offer any suggestions? Thank you in advance!

I believe that kind of sparkle gradually comes off in the wash.

Prism99: thanks. I think I will wash the *heck* out of it and see what happens. Being black, hopefully with all the washing, it won't turn gray! Thanks for the quick reply.

I've removed metallics using acetone and a rag. It's flammable, so work outside.

I used "sparkle" fabric in a quilt - ONCE.
The sparkle came off... and hid in the washing machine for several loads thereafter.
Hubby had sparkly boxers for awhile. I had sparkly bras for awhile. The towels sparkled for awhile.
Eventually, the sparkles were gone. They left the original fabric a lot faster than they completely left the washing machine.

I will never use that kind of fabric again!!

Sparkles is one of my pet peeves. Who ever invented this stuff should be made to clean our houses.

A few years ago I wanted to do a quilt using the flower fairies panels and just couldn't bring myself to buy it, Sparkles all over the pretty fabric. Made me sad for a minute.

Good luck.
peace

I had a glittery pink floral. Liked the print, not the glitter. Used the back side, not significantly different from front in color but no glitter.

I made some Christmas pillowcases for friends one year & also gave a set to my DD. She said "Mom, don't ever use that sparkle fabric again. The sparkles come off during the night & stick to my face." heheheh No more sparkle fabric
for me anymore.
