Sadly, as I was growing up there was no one in my family that quilted or did other crafts. I knew I must have gotten my passion for quilting from somewhere so I asked my aunt and she told me that my great grandmother "Tiny" and her sister were avid quilters. That made me happy.

My maternal grandmother quilted by hand and taught me to crochet. My paternal grandmother tried to teach me to knit but I just could not get the hang of it. She also hand quilted. She was hand quilting till she passed away one day before her 101st birthday. I have some of the unfinished pieces I want to do something with. I have quilts made by both of them I treasure. Wrapping up in them feels like being hugged by them.

My grandmother on my mothe's side quilted many quilts, my mother also quilted, my grandmother on my father's side crocheted bedspreads and table clothes with crochet thread. My mother also knitted and crocheted, but I am the only one in the family who also spins yarn, weaves and quilts.

I remember my dad's mother made quilts and for batting she had a big bag of wool that she carded(sp) before she put it in the quilt. It seemed to make it fluffier, I think.

yes, my Mom & Granny, it's where I learned to love quilting. They both had a 2x2 wood frame that hung from the ceiling, just rolled it up at nite to put it out of the way.

My grandmother was always sewing -- she was a home ec teacher.
Our neighbor was always crocheting doilies -- she taught me to crochet.
My first MIL quilted and crocheted!!! I was in heaven!!!! :) :)

We ALWAYS had quilts on our beds, made by grandmothers, great-aunts, etc. After I married, I tried all kinds of blankets on our bed, but nothing "felt right." Then, about 15 years ago, I came across a quilt at a Marshall's store and put it on our bed. WOW!!! I realized that was what was missing!
