I don't care if it is cotton or poly as long as it's at least 60 wt.
That's exactly right. When people say things like "my machine only likes _____ thread" you can just about bet that they only use one size and one type of needle.

Matching the needle to the thread makes a huge difference.

When it does that you're using a needle with too small of an eye. Try a topstitch 90/14 next time.

My Bernina dealer basically told me if I don't use Mettler, Isacord, and Aurafil my machine will blow up (oddly, these are what they sell!!!). I haven't found that to be the case at all. I do use those threads, but I also use Dual Duty and Connecting Threads Essential. Essential is my favorite for piecing, Isacord for quilting and embroidery.

My machine has run great with every thread I've tried.

I use all threads in my 15 yr. old Bernina. I still have thread from my sister thats over twenty years old and as long as it doesn't break when I tug on it, I use it. I do like to piece with aurifil.

peace

Superior Masterpiece 3 ply for quilting is loved by my Bernina and all our vintage machines. Nice weight for piecing.

I have Bernina 640. My favorite piecing thread is Superior's Masterpiece. It is available on a large cone. I use this thread on all my vintage Singers and they like it also. It has very little lint.
