Thread for Bernina
Can someone advise me as to the best cotton quilting thread to use for a Bernina 350?
I am looking for a low lint, high quality, 100% cotton thread that will come in a large spool to fit onto the machine (not on the table), and something like 1200 yds per spool would be great.
Is there such a thing?
Thanks very much,
Lainey

My Bernina 440 really likes the Mettler Silk-Finish cotton thread. My Bernina dealer recommends and sells it. However, the lage spools are 547 yards. Aurifil is also a very good thread, I have quite a bit of it also. I think the spools are 1000 yards or so.

You should be able to use any thread, personally I like Aurifil the larger spool has 1422 yds and I know there is a place on the internet Red Rock Threads that has it for about $9.00 a spool which is a pretty good price. I think it has less lint than the Mettler Silk Finish.

I was using the Mettler silk finish and doing very well lint-wise, but I was going through it too fast and having to buy ridiculous numbers of spools.
I switched to the aurafil and it's great how long the spools last, however after about ten minutes of sewing my 350 is covered with thread dust, and it's driving me crazy.
So I guess I was hoping for door # three!

A couple of you are saying Bs love Aurifil - so now I am wondering if I am getting dust on the machine from the fabric I'm currently using?
This is something you would notice, I have to keep a cloth nearby it's so bad...
Is it maybe the fabric and not the aurifil do you all think?
I'm working with high quality cotton fabric from Timeless Treasures, but...?

There are many good brands of thread. Lint is just part of using thread. I like Aurifil, Connecting Threads Pro 70wt, Glide, Invisifil, Bottom Line, Finishing Touch, any thread that is 50 wt 2 ply or thinner for top and bobbin.

It could be fabric dust. I love using Aurifil 50wt 2-ply in my Bernina. It is very low-lint; must less than when I was using Mettler silk finish cotton. I have had very little lint and no dust at all using Aurifil. Is it possible the needle size is wrong for the thread? Seems to me that might cause dust.

My Berninas, the 1260 and Artista 165 will use any kind of thread. Like mentioned above, lint is part of the clean up process with any kind of thread. Some threads have more lint than others. Just clean out the bobbin area each time you change bobbins. I mostly use machine quilting threads for everything unless I need a special color for a project.
