I have realised that the top I am making is extremely personal. In it there is my love affair and the longing to be in another place contrasting with the ties of duty and family. I wonder if only I can "see" it?

I do most of my own designs, so I put a lot of myself into them. It is very difficult to part with them sometimes but I'd rather share than have them stacked up in a closet here.

Most of my quilts are for someone else. While I'm working on
it I think of them fondly. I put alot of myself into the quilt and hoping it will relay my love for my family and friends.:)

Me too! I always know where it is going before I get started.

I also design most of my quilts and machine quilt them on my domestic machine. Lots of thoughts, trial &error sometimes, love for the art of sewing. If for someone special extra love for that person.

I can part with them because that's why I made them. Working on a couple now that are keepers.

There is a lot of thought, love, sweat and tears that go into each of my quilts, no matter their destination :D:D:D

Most everything that I work on, be it for my family, for our friends, for charity, I "bond" with them. It is a very personal thing with me and I love them, each differently, each the same. Each square of a particular fabric means something to me. I know where I got it, who I got it from, why I am putting it in a particular spot.

I keep a book to go to the person I have made the quilt for, so that he/she understands the work that has gone into it, why I used a particular pattern and what I want to convey to them about me and why I am making this quilt.

Oh, yes, I know exactly what you are talking about. Don't ever lose that feeling because it is what makes you a quilter. Your heart and soul is in that quilt/whatever.

Happy Sewing! Edie

Edie
You put that beautifully. I must try to make a book with the next one I do, even if it is only for myself. Thanks.
