My mom, who passed away a few months ago, made beautiful quilts over the years for family members. She did the piecing herself, but sent them out to have them long-arm quilted by a lady in town. I use the quilts, but now notice that when I pull them up on the bed, the quilting threads are popping and breaking. Do I just keep using them, put them away, or try to get them repaired? And how would I get them repaired??? I want to keep the quilts in the family.

You could re-quilt them, would be a lot of work but probably worth it. Often the reason the quilting thread breaks is that when it was quilted the quilt had too much slack in it. I have read on this board about leaving the quilt quite loose while you quilt. My experience is that you need a fair amount of tension on the quilt or when completed and used the quilting thread and not the fabric is what gets pulled and damaged.

I wonder if the person who quilted this used serger, polyester thread. It's weak thread for quilting and is damaged by heat. Several people have noticed the thread breaking like how you described. Not good:< I think the only way to fix them would be to have them re-quilted.
