Hi everyone!
Most of you know I am new to this Quilting Board and I love it. You all have been very kind and welcoming and I thank you. I know this is a place I can get my questions answered and I have a couple.
First I've always been a hand quilter/hand embroiderer but due to some disabilities now find that if I want to keep quilting and making comforters I've got to go to a machine so I took the plunge and bought a small beginner model a Brother SE 240/350 they are both the same I understand except the 240 had an USB port. My question is what type of thread they recommend rayon for embroidery but that is super expensive, my main question is what size? It comes with three caps small, med & large not that I know what that means! Do I get embroidery thread in the regular spools that go on sewing machines or are they the large spools I see on the web? I'm so confused!
My second question I want to make this type of comforter/quilt that is in the picture I hope goes through but I have no idea what kind of fiberfill to us to make the "puffs" for lack of a better word. I've done Traputo (sp) before and thought maybe I could do that before I put the backing on as I would like the comforter/quilt to be super high lofted but very soft like the fiberfill that is satiny smooth that goes in some pillows. Does anyone have a suggestions?

Okay so I'm dumb and cannot figure out how to attach a picture of the comforter so I'll try and describe it. It has a basic quilt pattern but seems to have what looks like 4x4 squares sewn all over it that enclose the fiberfill making it very puffy. And I have no clue how they do it. I found it in the J.C. Penny's comforter section page 8. I really like the comforter but don't know how they made the sections so puffy. Well, I know that doesn't describe it very well but if someone out there can figure out what I mean I would appreciate it! Thanks again-Vickie

I have the Brother SE 350 and have had it nearly a year now. I use the big cones that are 1.99 at Joanns they are 3000 yards. I also use coats and clark and anything I have laying around. I LOVE my machine and do lots of embroidery on it. I have done a fun and done style quilt. Questions PM me and I will try to help[.

i have the same machine and i buy my thread at hancock fabric they had them on sell over christmas for $3.89 a spool, alot of pretty colors. The only bad thing my autothreader broke and has been at the repair shop for 6 weeks and still waiting on the part to come in. So if you use the autothreader make sure you needle is completely up.

it looks like a puff quilt of some sort, there are several ways to make these google puff quilt and you should gets lots of ideas.

thanks everyone! Even living in Central Oregon I have both Hancock Fabrics and a Joann's so I'll look at both places I'm so excited and I can't wait to get that machine, it should be here anyday. Never having a machine before I'm sure I'll look at it for a week at least before using it cause I'm scared to death at using a machine.

That's called a Biscuit quilt, or Puff quilt. If you google biscuit quilt, there are several sites that explain the method.

Have you tried Ebay for your thread. They always have some on there.
