When doing the timing on my long arm, the directions say to put a black mark on the needle. Welll, I could not see that black mark so I cut a very narrow strip of blue painters tape and put it exactly where the black mark was on the needle (I could see the black mark off the machine) and then proceeded with my timing operation. Works great, and I can see it.

That is a great tip. I've had a hard time seeing the black mark, as well. I tried a red mark, that wasn't much better. I like the blue tape idea.
