Timmer used for speed control for FMQ

I thought I had seen somewhere someone's husband had put a timmer for her to use so she could control the speed on her sewing machine but I can't search and find it .Does anyone know anything about it?

He connected a dimmer switch that you would normally use for a lamp. You can buy these at the hardware store.
I have some on my lamps where the lamp plugs into the switch and the switch plugs into the wall.

It was a dimmer control. It called a plug in dimmer switch. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-142428-1.htm
