I still think the easiest way to see what kind of possible triangles you'll get, is to place a hinged mirror (held open at about a 60 degree angle, so you can see 6 reflected images in it) along the selvage and slowly slide it along the selvage - say about 3 - 4" in from the selvage. This will really show you what kind of hexs you'll get. Just moving it in a bit will give you a larger triangle thus a larger hexagon in the end.

I will work on mine tonight. I need to get my son to bed, and my DD has a stomach flu. Poor thing keeps throwing up! I hope it passes thru her quickly...:(

I have never used the mirrors, though I have a pretty good eye for what I am looking for, to each their own,

So the first thing I do is straighten my edge, I don't like working around the pins so I take them out, it is a personal choice, but if you don't use the flat head one they can get in the way of the ruler laying flat. just make sure that if you take them out that you make sure that your layers don't move on you,

so then I start cutting the strips that I have decided on, until I can't cut any more, I have a left over piece that is a fair size, I will leave it stacked, and I will have two of them when I am done the other half. I will cut them both as big as I can (same size) and make a set of smaller blocks that can be used for a wall hanging or a doll quilt.

I take one of my strips that I just cut and line up my ruler like this, and then make my first cut, and my second cut give me my first equalateral triangle, you can move the ruler back and forth and line it up from either side but I prefer to just keep to the one side and work this way.

Do I cut the fabric into 22" pieces width wise (on the fold) and then on the repeats lengthwise so I am working with 22" by 24" (24" repeat)pieces of fabric? Is a 3 3/4" triangle a good size to cut? Hope you can understand my question.

Thanks, sorry I am so confused.

Sorry, this working thing really gets in the way sometimes!
I hope this is a good enough picture. If not I will try and get another tomorrow.

Thanks,

Can you show a new picture of the fabric, at least half (prefer the whole width) and hopefully two repeats? as well as a ruler to show us how big the flowers are?

Here is pictures using a regular ruler with the 60 degree line on it,

There is two 60 degree lines on mine, and it depends on personal preference which one you use,

you may have answered this already, how many repeats down the length do you have?

So what do you do then with all the pieces, you need to keep them seperate in their piles of 6, I wouldn't want to be trying to sort pieces if they got mixed up, I like to use a piece of cardboard or something else that is hard to layer them like this to transport them, I have a couple of pieces cut the same size so that if I get to many on one I can move to the next and then I can stack the cardboard. then continue cutting until they are all triangles.
