If I am making scrappy HSTs, I love Thangles. I use to mark my fabric but it just takes too much time.
Those are my "tools" of choice too when doing lots of HSTs...for just a few - out comes the cutter/die or easy angle template ( Bonny hunter)....

Another vote for the Block-Loc-- the groove stabilizes and levels out the cutting. I'm not a specialty ruler person, but the 6.5" is now my go-to tool for HSTs and QSTs. It does any size up to 6.5".

I love this method of making HST! I'm just like you; I always make the original square bigger than called for. I would much rather cut down to size than have them be not large enough. Thanks for sharing!
