Hello everyone!

I'm trying to update the books I have on quilting. So I'm asking everyone two questions!

#1 What books do you have for quilting on your shelves that you wouldn't quilt without?

#2 What new books have you purchased recently, say in the past year or so, that you'd recommend?

I love Edyta Sitar's books on strip quilts and HST. They are great for trading strips and HST with friends but you can also create them all from your scraps and stash. So many possibilities with different kinds of fabrics(30's, Civil War, florals, etc.). Titled "Friendship Strips and Scraps" and "Friendship Triangles". Both can be ordered from Amazon much cheaper!

There are so many great books to pick from...I do love Terry Atkinson books...well written, and fun easy patterns. Also Kim Diehl's books...I could give you a really long list!

I use my paper piecing books the most but that is probably because one of my oldest groups is a paper piecing group so we have swaps that need it and to help each other find particular paper piecing patterns. Some of those members don't do any other kind of quilting.

Personally, I use Quilt Pro more than any book. If I see a block I like, I use Quilt Pro to duplicate it and then audition fabrics and create quilts with it before I ever cut or buy a piece of fabric. I think I like the design process more than any other part of quilting. I can't just copy other people's patterns, recipes, homes or decorating. I shudder every time we pass one of those cookie cutter subdivisions. We call them "Attack of the Clones" homes and I feel that way about everything. Hubby wants to be one of those cute couples that dress the same and I just can't do it! He won't wear tie-dye (my favorite) and I won't wear white t-shirts (his favorite).

Back on topic..What kind of quilting or quilt style do you like? Fast, Easy, Traditional, Strips, Geometrics, Secondary Designs, Stars, etc.? That will help point you in a direction. Before you go spending good fabric money on books though--check out your library.

BKrenning, I"m not really sure I have a "style" yet. I've been quilting for "years" but was stuck in super beginner mode. I'm just now branching out and trying to decide what I like to do. The only thing I know for sure is that I really enjoy being able to start and finish a quilt all myself.

Just asking cuase it's been a while since I"ve really been out shopping for books, yardsales and auctions don't count, so I was just trying to figrue out what's out there, what people recommend and what they don't like, just to help weed through the sea of books that's available!

Oh also my one and ONLY quilt book I'd never give up is Better Homes and Gardens Complete Guide to Quilting.

AS a matter of fact I've had to replace this book 4 times now, as I would give my other copies to my friends who were starting out!

Georgia Bonesteel Books are great and easy, so is Eleanor Burns.

I bought the Rodale Quilting Library series a long time ago and love them. They are broken into the different techniques (piecing, applique, quilting, borders and sets, minis) and the pictures are great. Easy to follow and wonderful samples.

I learned from Quilts! Quilts! Quilts!

The book that is open on my desk right now is "IT's OK if you sit on my quilt" - a great resource for blocks because they are broken into the sizes (3s, 4s, 5s, etc) so when I want to make a 12" block I can use a combination of these blocks or use one sample but make the pieces bigger.
