We are six months into our fabric moratorium BUT anyone can join at any time :) The official end of the moratorium is 1 November 2011. That’s only 5 months away. Whew!

    Here’s a quick summary of the guidelines/rules:
    • no fabric purchases to start a new quilt top (till 1 November 2011)

“Allowed” purchases include any item required to finish an existing project (either WIP or UFO), including but not limited to:
    • batting
    • backing or binding fabric
    • fabric (if nothing in your stash will work)
    • thread or notions
    • fabric purchased on a plan prior to 1 December 2010 (e.g. block of the month)

So why are we doing this – the reasons are as varied as there are people involved. Some of those reasons include:
    • de-stashing
    • focus on finishing WIPs
    • financial constraints

Want to bend the guidelines/rules a little? Sure – go for it. Some have chosen to:
    • commit for a shorter period of time
    • buy fabric if a really good sale comes along
    • setting a budget for how much they will spend each month
    • use 1 fabric from their stash each month
    • purchase new fabric for volunteer projects

So now… it’s update time. What have you been working on? What have you (or have not) purchased?

    Cheers

I really need to join your group. I have only bought the backing fabric for a special quilt this year. Bought a couple of spools of thread. I need to use what I have and I have a lot.

I just bought two 8 1/2 yd pieces of solids from Connecting Threads (was less than $3/yd!!!). Both of these are for scrap projects (navy as background for bright batiks, and off white for a scrap triangle project) that will allow me to use buckets (I literally have four empty cat litter buckets filled w/ strings and strips) while bringing some unity to the design. Other than this, I have been pretty good.

I plan on doing something this summer to get rid of my stash. The major disasters of this spring has got me thinking that I have too much. I have been wondering for the last month "If I had 24 hours to pack up what would I take?"

I really can't commit since I am planing on buying fabric to make my nephew a wedding quilt and want to buy the fabric during the summer. He will be visiting his mother and she lives just a few block from the quilt shop.

I will getting started ina couple of weeks when school lets out. I willbe checking in to see how people are doing and trying to get some inspirations.

Still using just stash so far. I did receive the rest of the BOM fabric from a fellow board member but, that was to finish up a project from 5 years ago. I receive the Connecting Threads and Keepsake Quilting catalogues and let me tell you..."they are sooooo tempting". But, I still need to replace my Janome 6600, so there will be no fabric...there will be no fabric...there will be no fabric. If I say it often enough, maybe I can convince myself (LOL.)

I've really tried to be good, but this last sale at Jo's got me! Didn't spend alot, but p/u stuff I didn't need exactly. But in my defense when you can p/u Heidi Grace or Susan Wingett fabric for $2.00 & $2.50 yard it would absolutely be insane not to get. Plus, I p/u some machine needles that were 50% off. Hey got yards of material and some supplies for $44. Personally, a new good for me. :D

I have not purchased ANY fabric. I did purchase a clearance twin sheet that was to be for my DGS, but he doesn't need it, so I may save it for a quilt backing. i've made several wall hangings and a king quilt.

I've been out of town on business a lot lately, so haven't even had an opportunity to shop. Which I good and bad :)

But... I have finished a small wall hanging. So still making progress.

I've made some progress on my DJ quilt, and I've cut out a lot of my fabrics for my FWS and SBS. And I'm in the Boomerang swap which is helping me use up some of my fabric slowly. Didn't buy any in June. :) Goal is to not buy any fabric in June.

So, the "if nothing in your stash works" bullet point...do we have to PROVE it??     Is someone checking up on us??

I might have to think about this...
