I found a Baby Lock Protege serger for $125. Looking on ebay I think that's a good price. It comes with thread and rack. I don't even have quilting down yet. Is it silly to go ahead and buy a serger?
Thank you for your insight!

It depends what you are going to use it for as to whether it is silly or not.

Jane, It would come in handy for making clothing for the precious baby in your Avatar. If you do garmet sewing it really comes in handy. Most of my garment sewing these days is mending but I use it there also. I also use it when I make my Linus quilts.

$125 for a serger is a steal. It's not for parts or something, is it? ;)

It sounds like a good price! I'd love a serger. There are a lot of baby things and garment type items that I'd be more likely to try.

The Babylock Protege is a good serger. At least mine was. I bought it in the early 90's and it is very easy to operate. Sometimes it is hard to thread the loopers but probably no harder than any others that are not jet air threaded. I would usually just tie on when I needed to make a color change.

I upgraded to the BL Imagine Wave in 2006 because my eye's just aren't what they used to be! My youngest DD now has my Protege and it is still going strong.

Thank you, ladies. The serger is lightly used, comes with the thread she bought and thread holder and manual. I think I'll get it. It may be a while before I use it, but I have two grandsons and a granddaughter on the way. And now I have time to sew. Again, thank you!

FYI, I paid $500 for mine new in the early 90's. That doesn't sound like a bad price. At the time Babylock had 3 sergers. The Protege was the middle priced one. Oh, and it does have differential feed.

Thank you, Melinda. I was wondering about that. I sent an email to the owner asking and she hasn't gotten back to me yet.

Just make sure the seller has many sales and 100 percent fdbks...My friend just bought a machine that sounded like heaven and it was the devil and had to fight with seller and ebay to get her money back....
