I'd like a pattern for a realistic looking poinsettia, not applique or paper pieced about 5-6", maybe a series of oval petal shaped leaves to cut out for blocks. Most I've found are freehand or applique.

Somehow I can't imagine a poinsettia looking realistic unless it is applique or paper pieced. How would you put oval-shaped blocks together?

Look at www.thimble-art.com under quilt patterns. There is a poinsettia there.

Thimble-art has a video about how to make the poinsettias.

Wow! That is quite an undertaking, very pretty, so far don't know how to do paper piecing.
I guess I was thinking that you'd cut out the whole petal one by one, then stitch it flat arranged like a poinsettia to any shaped block you wanted.
Maybe, I'm imagining more than can be achieved.
I was looking for a pattern for the petals that were 4-5" petals and maybe some pattern for leaves then arrange them as a poinsettia and stitch them flat. I guess you'd have to do what she did and make a back and front otherwise it would be a raw seam.
