I had my husband make me one also. My sister takes her dinning room table and pulls it apart, lays some plexy glass over the open part and puts a light under the table. I guess we can make do when needed.

I got mine at JoAnn's with a 50% off coupon. I think I paid $12.00. I don't use it a lot, but when I need it, I really need it and am glad to have it.

I found a nice, sturdy, but open on the top, IKEA table at Salvation Army - marked at $4.99 It was on a Wednesday - which is family day in our area and everything is half price. I take the glass off my night stand when I need it. Fits perfectly! $2.49 works for my budget!

Very good buy. I have one and use it constantly since most of my quilts are appliqued.

I used a light box when I was doing stained glass. I found a large drawer at a recycle place, put a fluorescent light in the bottom (screwed it in) and had a glass shop cut a sheet of 1/4" thick glass to fit on the top. That glass was too thick for me to cut. They buffed the edges so it wasn't sharp and it was so heavy it never moved around -- plus the drawer had a lip on the front that the glass butted up to.

I use a under the counter light that plugs into the wall and my extended plexi sewing table for my sewing machine.

works great and nothing to store.
