Traveling w Hexies
#12
This retired teacher appreciates finding yet another use for school supplies. Even after 16 years I have not lost the practice of shopping in the fall for school supplies.

I've traveled with hexies, although not on a plane.P Even though the airlines supposedly have relaxed the rules, I'd be afraid to travel with sewing scissors, afraid of losing them. I'd travel with one of the Clover pendants on a necklace. That should work.
Packing a large sewing basket into a carry-on bag seems excessive. I have a small over the arm sewing kit with a pin cushion in the center and two pockets which have thread, needles, and usually scissors. It looks about 1/4 the size of your sewing box. I would also consider putting the sewing stuff into zip-loc bags for flying. They can be crushed down and packed into limited space.

Lafpeaches, I would suggest 1" size. Hex are measure by the length of the side. I end up cutting the fabric using 2.5" strips.

I too recommend the Clover pendant. I take my hexies, fabrics, threads, needles, bulldog clip in a quart plastic freezer bag and wear the pendant. Never had a problem. But I do take off the pendant when going thru security. The rest of my fabric and hexies are packed in the suitcase. I also take a sample with one row around the center, someone always asks what I am sewing. Then I can just show them and not have to explain.
