Question Judy Niemeyer workshop question

I have an opportunity to travel this summer for one of her workshops but at a substantial cost. I already do foundation piecing...is her technique that much different? Just wondering because there are a couple more less expensive classes I want to attend in the upcoming year and I'm on a budget. Thanks for your thoughts and input!

Judy Niemeyer makes such gorgeous patterns! I have two of her PP patterns and after reading the instructions, they seem to be explained very well. They are almost a course in and of themselves. One difference I can see is that she also includes patterns/directions to precut the fabric pieces before paper pieicing so you don't waste as much fabric.

Since you already do foundation paper piecing, is there is something more to your trip, such as seeing the area, visiting a relative or friend, then it might make the substantial cost more worthwhile? Otherwise, it sounds like budget should be your determining factor.

In addition to what Lara said ... is it Judy Niemeyer herself teaching, or someone else? From what I understand there are several people who teach "her" classes - they are trained in her methods and certified by her, but it may not be her. If that's important to you then you might want to at least check that out first.

aha ... what I heard verfied. Below in quotes copied from her website

"Due to the interest and demand for instruction for Judy's Foundation Paper Piecing and other various techniques, we have decided to expand our teaching effort to include not only Judy but also a select few expert quilting instructors who will be certified to teach Judy's techniques. Currently, Judy is booking classes up to two years in advance. In adidtion to helping Judy reach new regions, provide more local representation, and meet the high demand, we hope this program will help meet your teaching needs. "

Also, here's the link to her classes. Click on her photo area, then a window with her bio will pop up. Once you get that, on the left is a link "Teaching schedule click here" - this is the list of classes that Judy herself is teaching. In the summer, it looks like she only has classes in Montana and Alberta Canada.

Hope this helps!

Thanks...great thoughts, will check the workshop details again and see if Judy will be there or a representative trained in her technique.
