This is huge. It's for a queen size bed with a drop and a tuck. My initial thought was squares for the front and strips for the back, making it reversible. Now I wonder if I should turn it into two quilts with plain backs. Pictures have been "very" cropped".

I would say it depends on if you have 2 people you want to gift a B/W quilt to. If so, then I'd find some b/w fabric with a pretty overall design and make 2 quilts...if not then I'd make it into one BUT it's not always easy getting 2 tops to play nicely together to quilt...

I am trying to use up some quilt tops by using one as backing on the other. two birds with one "sewing" and all that.

A lot depends on the quilting. If you can get the strips on the back to be relatively straight and the quilting doesn't emphasize crooked stripes, you could do the reversible.

It is hard with squares to get them evenly centered when using a quilting machine. I know this because I had that issue. Plain with a chunk of squares running down the middle is better. Strips have the same issue along the sides. Might be better to make two quilts. Or just run with it and dont be too fussy on how the back side turns out.

I think it would make a great reversible quilt and since it is so large, I doubt anyone would ever notice (except you) whether or nor the quilt was a bit off kilter. For me, if the UFO has been lying around a while, I would want to get it done so I could move onto something else. : )
