I've been told there is a way to treat fabric so that regular colored pencils will look like watercolor. Does anyone know what that treatment is?

When I use colored pencils on fabric for landscape quilting, I dab a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol to blend the colors.

Seems to me I remember someone talking about using Aloe vera gel.

Are you sure it's colored pencils and not Sharpie Markers? Our quilt club did this and it looks like watercolor. basically you draw with the sharpie then spray/drip rubbing alcohol over it and it runs. Throw let it dry then throw it in the dryer. We did silk and 100% cotton fabrics. I googled it and a bunch of links came up, you can check there.

I use Inktense watercolor pencils, not regular colored pencils, but you might find some information in this very long thread from last year. http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...g-t131922.html

Textile medium and clear aloe vera can be used interchangeably for this purpose, though certainly not for every purpose.

I've seen beautiful blocks created with the Derwent Intense pencils. I think there may be a tutorial on the site for how to use them.
