Understanding all the Group Activities, please help?

I'm new to the group, and want to know what I'm getting into before signing up. I know many activities are past, but would like to know about them if they'd come up again future. Heres my curiosity list, if you know about these, please jump in...
Strip swap...scrappy siggie...doll quilt swap (what's the size)...boomerang swap...I spy swap...breast cancer awareness swap (fabric or block?)...SQA?...Funky chicken...RR Group...monthly quilting bee... hot air balloons...shrinkage quilt...select your starts...9 patch project...funky neighborhood...1.5"square...monthly secret pal...row robin...secret santa...pincushion swap... pot holder swap (what requirements on these?
I also see some have 80 or over 100 sign up, do we make that many blocks or swap things? Postage would get high.

OK Debbie...I can help on a few of those...hopefully...LOL!
Boomerang Swap (I'm dying to get in this one) is where you pick a fabric (or fabrics) and send a fat quarter to everyone in the group and they make a block using the fabric you sent with fabrics they choose to go with it. It's really cool to see how everyone does different blocks using the same "base" fabric. All in all, I think there are like 36 folks doing it so you would get 35 blocks back...but....remember..you will also be getting fat quarters from them so you'll be doing 35 blocks as well. They have a lot of time to get the blocks done though.
Monthly Secret Pal is just that. Every month you sign up you are assigned a secret pal. You get information about them from the person doing the swap which helps alot. You then put together a little package with a $10 limit and send it to them by the due date. You can make things for them, give them stuff from your stash, etc. Lots of fun!
Secret Santa is the same as Secret Pal except that you are playing Santa for your secret pal and since it's Christmas things are a bit "bigger". The limit is $20 and I believe you also include 4 fat quarters or something like that. Oh...and I think everyone waits to open them at the same time and then comment on the board..ROFL! That should be fun :D
Pincushion swap was lots of fun. This time we knew who are partners were so I got to ask my partner what her favorite colors were, etc. Basically, you are making each other pincushions and swapping them :D

Thanks, I'm in two other groups with Secret Santa also $20 limit.
Then we do Secret Stitcher (like your monthly secret pal) and $20 but it's quarterly for 1 yr same person.
Then we do a Birthday Club, it's a FQ & card to everyone on their birthday month only, lots of fun when they come in on your birthday.
Then we do a FQ Lotto, sign up, 1st of month we have one lady not playing who draws, everyone signed up sends the winner a FQ.
Then we do a Quilt Bingo, the same lady not playing, draws from 100 quilt related words that we've put on our bingo card. We have 6 ways to bingo, so 6 winners, and black out winner gets FQ, so everyone playing pays the assigned fabric size (2 charms, 2 layer cakes, 1 strip, FQ) for that particular bingo (horiz/vert, diag, T, Box, X, BkOut)
We've done fabric swaps, it was 2 diff. 6"charms, and changed to 2 diff. 10" layer cake squares.
Then your boomerang is similar to our 'Friendship' box swap, but we have a sm.tablet journal goes with it. Everyone starts with their own block & entry about yourself. It goes down the line, rotating. You get a box(pkg) add about yourself in each journal & make 'your signature' block trying to match the color/theme of their original block. Your signature block is the same to each person, just diff.to match together for their blocks.
I love participating in groups, always something new, new people.

I am hosting the October /2010 I-spy swap.. Its 3 sets - 40 five inch squares and each set is a different fabric.. They send them all to the host (me) and i swap one for one so you get 3 sets of 40 different fabrics...

The boomerang is actually fat eights. you send one to 35 people and they use your fabric plus their own fabric make you a block and return it. At the end of the swap you should have 35 blocks with your fabric in it. all 12.5 inch blocks.
The funky chicken and the funky houses. You make a block in any size divisible by 3 plus seam allowance. You make 6 of the same blocks but you can make as many sets as you want. Some you get one of your own blocks back and some you don't.
If you check the first post of the swap topic there is usually all the instructions and you can click the activity page link and see how many signed up.
The siggy swap was made with 3.5 inch blocks all with a white center and any fabric on the ends. It was signed with name, board name, city and state. You could make as many as you wanted. Then they were all swapped out by several people and returned to senders. you pay postage both ways.
Swaps are fun but can be expensive and time consuming so be sure you can make the commitment before you sign up.

We'll pray your surgeries go well! Sounds like a better time to be working on small hand-stitched or lap-quilting projects! (plan ahead?)
Are you both quilters? Does the 25 mean you've been married that long?

Steven doesn't quilt, keep teasing him he should with me, but he works 120-150 hrs a wk in the oil field up here.
Yes, 25 was from our 25th anniversary, but we'll be married 30 yrs now this next April, just never changed it.
Steven lives in an apartment, 4 hrs away from here, but he built this home himself and it's beautiful, we don't want to sell..so I travel to him now and then, but his hours, I usually don't see him much more if I'm there or here, so I take care of this place myself. We have 21 acres, 4800sqft home, 4500sqft of gardens, a dog & cat, so leaving is hard I can't bring animals to the apartment.
We have family in Bismarck 40 miles away, and a daughter & gd in Washburn 1 mile away, everyone keeps me busy enough.
So, where are you? I love learning about people. Debbie

Hi Debbie - I am a devotee of the Doll Quilt Swaps. You do one doll quilt 12"x12" up to 24"x24". Sometimes we have a theme, sometimes not. The "swap mom" does the random drawing to pair participants up, and gives you the name of your partner. You can ask them their preferences or just do your own thing. It's great fun. Look at some of the past ones to get inspired!!! The November/December DQ swap is still open, so you could join.
