I ordered the Lazy Angle ruler and book (Lazy and Lovin it) by Joan Hawley. It may be my limited experience but, I am having a difficult time making blocks and I find there is a lack of "dummy" instructions to really help me. I have made practice samples, as suggested, but do not feel comfortable making a full size block. Has anyone else had a problem or can give me tips for success?

The ruler has been confusing me although I think I am getting the hang of it. The book comes with three pattern peices, "A" and two "B's". "B's" overlay "A" at different positions and changes size (the amount of "B" displayed). Designs take two, three, or four "B's." When I think I have it, I make a sample, as suggested, but it does not look as it should. I have done one design but it took taking it apart and putting it back together many times. As I said before, maybe the whole thing is related to my lack of experience.

I got confused just looking at the ruler--LOL! I do much better with a square ruler and the degree marks on it.

The Lazy & Loving it book cover shows blocks with some really odd angles on them that I would rather paper piece so I'm not going to be much help. Hopefully someone else who has the book can help you figure it out. You might want to create another topic and put Lazy Angle Ruler Help as the heading.

I think there are videos on youtube on how to use the lazy angle ruler.

I think the maker also has a video on "how to use it"

I have seen the basic tutorial and it shows the most basic design which I have made. I did not see a DVD.

Sorry, I haven't used that ruler ... yet.

When I have something I have difficulty understanding I look at it carefully then try to make some sort of sense to it. Then I try to use it in my own way and keep notes. When I am successful I put my notes with my quilting hints folder for future reference.

This has been great as it may be quite a while before I use that ruler/tool again.

Here's a link to Kay Woode TV. Select Lazy Girl Joan Hawley on the top and then the video you want. She has two, I think, that use her ruler.
