I've had my 180 for 10 years now. I love it, it has been a really good machine. You are limited to a 5x7 embroidery field but so far that has been enough for me. If you get it from a dealer he should have some kind of warranty. My dealer gives 6 months on a used machine. Be aware that machine embroidery is addictive and expensive. But I don't want to be cured. Also factor in the cost of software.

Which of the bernina will give me a larger than a 5x7 embroidery field?

Sewmuchmore: I have had my Bernina 180 for almost two years. I purchased it used from a dealer 60 miles away and he gave me an incredible deal, warrantied it for 90 days. I love it and have had no problems with it! (The 180E is with the embroidery unit and I knew I wouldn't use it). It is a true workhorse. I quilt (quite a bit) with lots and lots of free-motion quilting, make purses, and make garments. I clean my machine regularly to prevent all the stuff that builds up from sewing, especially in the bobbin area. You can't go wrong with this machine. Good luck...I know deciding on a sewing machine is very difficult. Connie in California

thank you!! I am going to check it out this week. It will be my anniversary gift, after 41 years and a battle with cancer I think I should have one. I can't wait. Hubby thinks that it is just what the doctor order.

I got a used one this past spring. I got it specifically for FMQ and embroidery. I've quilted a few things on it already and love it. I do wish it had a low bobbin sensor like my big Janome does, but it does absolutely beautiful stippling! I took some lessons from a LQS and they have been hugely helpful. Having only Janome machines for many years, there are more differences than you think between brands!

I agree with hubby, it's just what the doctor ordered!

It is just what the Quilting Board ordered too. Have fun with it. And congrats on your 41st anniversary. My 50th will be next June.
