Question Using flannel in quilts

Hello,

For those of you who use flannel in quilting do you have any advice? Does it shift much? Do you need to clean your machine more often, etc? Thanks!

I use flannel all the time. Prewash if thin/ loosely woven. ( I don't prewash multiple times- see no reason to wear it out before using it. I purchase thick, scrumptious soft, cuddly flannels) Starch well & iron before cutting. Clean bobbin area of machine with each bobbin change. Start with new needle. Change needle after project ( flannel seems to dull my needle faster than regular cottons) I Love Flannel Quilts!

You will get much less shrinkage if you use the heavier LQS flannel. It does cost more per yard but you will be so much happier. I don't prewash it because I shrink tested the brands at my LQS and almost zero shrinkage.

Yay for flannel! I have always wanted to do a flannel quilt but was scared of it because people said it was different than quilter's cotton. Time to stock up!
