Thread: Using fleece for a backing.

I want to make a lap quilt for my brother and use fleece instead of batting and backing. I plan to just tie the two layers together. What would be good to use for this? I am considering using Perle cotton. Would that be a good thing to use? If so, what size would you suggest? Since I have never used this before, I don't know how strong it is.

I have never tied a quilt but think Perle Cotton would work well.

i have made several with fleece backing. The Perle cotton works well as does yarn. Just be sure to take 2 stitches & then use a square knot.

Excellent idea!

When I used to tie quilts I used baby yarn...it is soft and strong and thin enough to get through a large eyed needle that doesn't leave a hole in the quilt material. I also added batting for warmth.

The ones I've tied have been for girls (all ages) so I used ribbon, but for a brother the perle cotton or yarn would be better.

Have you thought of using fleece with minky and putting them right sides together leaving an opening, turning and sewing all around? It makes a really quick and easy quilt!
