I'm looking for input and ideas! i.e., size for one thing. I've never made one myself but it sounds like an interesting project.

I just made one. Mine was a size 60 x 29 1/2. I made it with a pkg of Turnovers. I purchased a book just simply called "Bed Runners" by House of White Birches. They have several to chose from. I still need to quilt it.

This is what I have been thinking about doing also. I want to get a new solid color either comforter or bed spread then make bed runners for different seasons and holidays. I figure I have a much better chance of completion and variety doing this then making king size quilts. Plus there's the whole problem of storage, bed runners would be so much easier.
BJ- your measurements of 60 x 29 1/2. For what size bed was this made?

I have a bedrunner book as well, I think that's the same one I have. A bedrunner goes across the bottom of your bed. My parents had one on their bed when I was little. My cats would love one! And once I get caught up on some UFOs, I might even make one for them. I think making different holiday themed ones is a great idea.

I've never made one myself however I rescued a barely quilted one as well as a barely quilted top from a thrift store. I had no idea what the long skinny thing was until I came here and saw someone post that they had made one. Too bad it is not my colors at all - it's pink based - not one of my colors that's for sure. I will probably finish it and send it to my mother to put on one of the beds in her island house maybe. We'll see....... for now, it is in the ufo corner..
