Is there such a thing as varigated hand quilting thread. Or only machine.
My neighbour hand quilts with the machine thread. Pros and Cons?
Thanks Gale

She can use Thread Heaven or beeswax on thread that is not handquilting and have no problems at all.

If using machine thread I prefer to use beeswax instead of Thread Haven, but that is just my personal preference.

IMHO, I would think using varigated thread for hand quilting would look like she is using different thread colors instead of getting a blending of colors. She might want to try it on a practice piece to see if she likes the look.

Yes there is varigated hand quilting thread. You can even buy it at Wal Mart or quilt shops. I think it breaks a little easier than regular quilting thread but just use shorter lengths of thread. I like the look, in colorful quilts, it blends in plain colors it add a little spark and is beautiful on the back.
Attached pic of one,but maybe you can't tell the colors in the quilting thread. Ruth

It does, if you can sew straight! I am using a variagated blue and it did it on a few whitepieces and I decided I need to use white on white until I get better!

Molly, I can`t hand quilt straight eitherso here`s what I do.
I draw a line with ruler and disappering ink then attach 1/4 inch masking tape and a couple of pins and follow along. Works graet.
