Vintage Sewing Machines
#1
How many of you use vintage sewing machines? I have a Necchi Supernova, made in Italy, that I recently purchased and ordered a few parts for it and have it sewing. I don't have any of the attachments or cams...trying to locate them. I also have a 1939 Singer 201-2 that I'm trying to get up and running.

My 'everyday, do everything" Bernina is approaching 20, but I do not know if that is vintage. I also have a Elna Grasshopper, 1950, a Singer 99 made in 1956 and I am the proud new owner of a Kenmore made in about 1960. They all run well and do a beautiful stitch. (Everything but the Bernina is straight stitch only).

I bought my first vintage sewing machine (Necchi Supernova) from the Humane Society Thrift Store for $15. It was missing the bobbin case, but I was able to purchase one. It is in great condition...only need some accessories for it. I'm hooked on the old machines because they were so well made and sew so well, although I do have a new Brother 6000 and a Singer Touch-tronic from the '70's.

I've heard that Boston Terriers are great dogs! I'm sure you enjoy them.
I was amazed at how easy it is to use my hand-crank. People keep asking me how I manage to sew when I only have one hand free to guide the fabric?? I tell them that the feed dogs are so good, it takes no effort to handle the fabric. Just let it go and, except for an ocassional adjustment, it sews straight!
I agree. The older machines definitely are better made. We'll see how many of these electronic machines (I have a couple) will be around as long as the vintage machines. Personally, I think not.
