Default Virginia Avery passed away Sept. 8th

Don't know if the rest of you saw this news but Jinny Avery passed away yesterday, Sept. 8th. She was not quite 100 years old. Wow! She was quite the innovative quilter and garment maker. The Quilt Show (thequiltshow.com) has a free to all video of a visit by Alex and Ricky when she was given their Legend award back in 2007. What an inspiration she is/was! I hope I can grow up to make jackets that are 1/10th as beautiful as hers ... but I had better hurry. Rest in Peace under a beautiful quilt, Jinny.

Sorry but I see where her passing is listed as Sept. 6th on another site and not the 9th as I read somewhere else. Not sure which is correct and it really doesn't matter as either way she appeared to be a great teacher and pretty good at playing the piano too. She was just a few weeks from her 100th birthday.

Awww. The passing of a legend. I'm sorry to hear of this, but I, for one, am grateful she was with us for so long and was as influential as she was. I think of the impact she had on all those amazing 'costumes' of the Fairfield Fashion Show in the 1980s + 90s, and the wonderful patterns she designed. I have some of hers that I've never made, but will consider them as collector's items now. She will be missed and not likely ever replaced, her shoes are surely too big, an icon. Rest in peace, Virginia.

What an amazing, talented, bright, yet modest, person she was. We should all aspire to her character. I was wowed by these interviews.
