Hello! I'm a new-ish quilter and brand-spanking new to this board. I have absolutely no training or instruction of any kind in making quilts or, really, sewing in general -- but I'm not letting my total ignorance stand in my way.

I'm sewing on a Brother ES-2000. I bought a walking foot online from an authorized dealer and made sure that this foot was compatible with my machine. The foot didn't come with any instructions for attaching, so I *think* I figured it out. Anyway, I set the foot aside for a few months because I got pregnant and got really sick, so I didn't get around to really trying it out for about 4-5 months. At which point I couldn't find the receipt from the online shop I bought it from.

To get to the point, the foot doesn't feed. The feed dogs on the foot will go all the way to the back of the foot and just stay there, they do not extend on their own. I've tried making sure that the feed dogs are all teh way forward when I start, but within 2-3 stitches, they hit the back of the foot and stay there. So the few times I've used, I'm physically dragging the fabric through (not something I would recommend!).

I can't figure out if the foot is broken/defective or if I am an idiot. Can anyone with a little more knowledge shed some light on this for me? Thanks in advance!

Not sure if this will be any help. Is there a bar that is loose at the top of the walking foot? If so, this bar has to go over something on your needle attachment, it will go up and down with the needle. It makes the walking foot walk, I think :oops: Sometimes it doesn't want to cooperate when it is being attached. Can you post a picture of the foot? Hope this helps.

There should be a bar on the right of the walking foot as you look at it , the end will have a U shape on it , that will attach to the needle screw and makes the foot walk. if you don't have that bar connected correctly that could cause your problem.

Yes I have the bar attached as shown in the picture. And unlike other posts that I read about walking feet on this board, where the bar sits on top of the screw, mine goes around it. I did make sure I had that properly attached, I even poked around to see if there was somewhere else it could possible attach and couldn't find anywhere else to put it.

hhhmmm thinking here.... can you tell if when the needle gose up , the bar is also going up and down.. can you tell if the white feed feet are moving ? does that make sense ?

ok I just went and grabbed my foot :wink: . When you are holding it and move the bar up and down all the way do the white plastic feet move in the opposite direction of the side bar ?

Yes the white feed feet do move opposite the bar -- meaning that when the bar is going up the feet are going down and vice versa. However, the feet don't move foward at all on their own. I would have thought that as the feet move up into their highest postion they would come forward as well. Therefore, the feet continue to move up and down, they just sit at the back of the foot and do nothing to help feed the fabric (if that makes any sense).

I bought a WF from a dealer who was going out of business....final sale item. There were no instructions with it. I had the same problem....posted to a few quilting forums but never got it working. I have one now that came with my machine and it works great. The other one is in the junk drawer...perfect place for it,I'd say.

If you ever find out how to get yours working, please let me know.

Just a thought, you do have the feed dogs up too, don't you? The two work in conjunction.
