Default Singer 185 NEED QUICK ANSWER!!

Friends, I have a lead on a really nice 185 but I wanted to know if this model MUST BE IN A CABINET OR CASE or if it can sit on a table. I had been searching for a 99k but decided against it because it knocks the table if not in a case or cabinet. Seller says the 185 can sit on a table but I want to confirm this before I drive out to look at it.

I just Googled "Singer 185 sewing machine" and then clicked on images. Looks to me as if it was designed to either be in a cabinet or sit in a "portable" base. They probably sold the machine both ways. One that has been taken out of a cabinet will not have the base part on it. You probably need to communicate with the seller to find out if the machine was originally a portable with a cover, or was taken out of a cabinet. HTH!

Edit: From looking at the pictures, the machine head can sit on a table without a base. However, then I think you may get the jiggling around that you are trying to avoid.

Thank you, Prism!! I don't think it will jiggle because it is so heavy but I didn't want it to be like the 99 that has a part that thunks the table when not in a case. It does come with a case but i'd like to be able to use it without. Most of the pics I see show it in a case but I will only buy it if it can sit on a table.

You do need a case or some sort of base to raise the hook area off the table or it will thunk like a 99 or 66. It is a really cute machine though!
