My Singer reverses a few stitches just fine, but I don't like to do more than a few. I will say, if you have a generic brand walking foot, it might fall apart. I went through 2 of them before buying a true Singer brand. Now it works very well and I've had it for several years.

I've never had a problem with going in reverse with my walking foot. I don't think there's a whole lot that you can "mess up" as far as the inner workings of the foot.

I have an Elna 740 and I use the walking foot a lot and I do reverse with it with no problems.

I use a walking foot in my quilting and taking a few back stitches has not been a problem.
