is it just me but it seems to me that a lot of peaple call a wallhanging a quilt but to me a quilt is to be used on a bed and take a lot of work while a wallhanging doesn't take as long and some are only 12 inch square and they are also called a quilt or is a quilt any thing that has quilting on it. i don't mean to offend just wondering

like a lot of things it's a matter of "opinion"
to me a quilt is 3 layers sewn together and used to keep warm
and that's MY opinion ;)

Have you checked the dictionary for the meaning of the word? A wallhanging, no matter how small is a quilt.

Quilts come in all sizes, from miniature to king. Quilting is a technique.

"quilt" types up a lot faster than "wallhanging".... :) :)

I started out quilting with wall hangings. It allowed me to try lots of different techniques. That said, some of those miniatures took more time than some of the larger bed-size quilts I have made.

I tend to agree, there's quilts and there's quilted art. To me quilts are: doll, baby, crib, twin, full, queen, king and California king. Couch throws, maybe. But if it's small and hangs on a wall it's art. Not taking anything away from the skill and techniques that are used when making miniatures or wall hangings, it's just to me they're different. Personally I think other than the quilting it's easier to make a bed quilt. The miniatures have to be far too precise.

A quilt is, by definition:

1: a bed coverlet of two layers of cloth filled with padding (as down or batting) held in place by ties or stitched designs
or...
2 something that is quilted or resembles a quilt

Sooooo...a wall hanging is a quilt. It's just a small one.

Also, I have seen some very intricate mini's that I'm sure take as much or more time than a full size quilt.

what really chaps me is for someone to call a quilt a blanket!

A small quilted piece can be used as a wallhanging or it can be called a mini-quilt and used as a doll quilt.
