My closest one moved the department and downsized and when I went looking for 2 certain quilting mags, yesterday, they had moved the magazines as well and now carry NO quilting magazines...

The reason I'm commenting is... have you seen the price that JoAnns charges for those? Last time I checked it was $12.99 / yard. Now, you know that is a phony price. If Wal-Mart is selling a comparable fabric for about $8 / yard, well, let's do some math. Most of us know not to buy anything from JoAnn's unless you have a 40% off coupon ... and 40% off of $12.99 is $7.80. So guess what? That marvelous coupon gives you a 20 cents/yard savings off of what would be a *fair* retail price.

Gee but I hate marketing gimmicks! Don't you think it would be easier if stores just charged a fair price every day? Then we could freely buy what we need for our projects when we need it, rather than having to wait for sales and then go on a buying binge, trying to anticipate what we *might* need down the road (and sometimes guessing wrong, which wastes money in the long run).

Am I the only one who feels this way?
This is why Walmart does so well. Now JC Penney has joined the bandwagon too bad they don't sell fabric. As for Joanns here is what I do, I have the vip card, 10% off everything except if you are using a coupon. I wait till the batting goes on sale for 50% then use my 10% off card, also wait for the fabrics to go a 40% off and do the same, however lately they are only doing 25 or 30 off on the fabric. Other wise I always check Walmart as they do have some fabrics well priced that are decent, you just have to be able to judge quality by touch and know the going prices out there if you want to get the best deal.

Dollars at the check out speak very loudly, Walmart is the kind of store that looks at the revenues generated by the sq ft they have devoted to that product. BTW their notions are always cheaper by many dollars than JoAnns.

My St. Helens, OR Walmart is renovating the fabric department. Rumor is that it will eventually be nothing but two isles, and no notions, buttons, or trims. BUT they are enlarging the artificial flower department!! Can you smell my fumes!!!
