FYI .....I bought a Brother XR-7700 from Costco for $139 with free shipping. It's lightweight and comes with all the bells and whistles including a walking foot. I'm very happy with it and it weighs less than 20#s. Only drawback is that it does not come with nor can you purchase a straight stitch plate for it.

There is a refurbished one with free shipping from Overstock.com for $136. It says it's blue but the color is really a lavender...

I find sewing machines at estate sales and auctions all the time. I've found a couple of featherweights in amazing condition for less than $200 and just found a QVC version of the Bernette 65 for $30. It's cute, light and stitches really well! Try estatesales.net in your area. Most sales post a TON of pictures! Good luck!

I agree, I have the Viking so when I bought a "class machine" I purchased a refurbished one for $100, it is a work horse and I love it. I also have a brother that I bought at a flea market for $40,it also works great for classes.

I bought a portable machine for a door prize for my retreat group and decided on the Janome Jem Platinum 760. It is a quality portable for the money. I use a Singer 301, straight seam only.

I also use a Brother sq-9050 to take to classes and retreats. I got it at Wal Mart about a year ago for $150.00.
I have a Janome but I like the Brother much better as it is so light and sews great.
